Federer marches on

ROGER Federer has cruised into the French Open second round while triple champion Rafael Nadal was left kicking his heels in the locker room as torrential rain swamped Roland Garros in Paris Federer, the world No.1 and 12-time grand slam champion, also had the bonus of seeing potential quarter-finals opponent Richard Gasquet pull out of the tournament because of a knee injury. Federer, the No.1 seed despite having never won at Roland Garros, defeated world No.40 Sam Querrey from the United States 6-4 6-4 6-3 to set up a match against Spain's Albert Montanes or close friend Kristof Vliegen from Belgium for a place in the last 32.
